On this season of <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2196275/"><i>Bones</i></a>, there was an episode where Bones asked the nursery director to send her a picture of her baby every hour (or something like that). It was her first day back at work and she was very anxious about leaving her baby. So she sent her a picture of her baby's poop. Bones found this very helpful while Booth said it was probably meant as an insult. I thought it was hilarious!<br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjN_Y3xNVdSETAzW0q6Ndo6m_phZEovPvNc_SYd4iLwtYEVA1fKfaLVT729F4oHFmyzqD3lAipDFHdf-ybdp1Q1mGGGfxx25IpdC18uRP_JQCj7bar0BAwjOuuVCvuJQaUCl6lHoRiZuGyU/s1600/bones.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjN_Y3xNVdSETAzW0q6Ndo6m_phZEovPvNc_SYd4iLwtYEVA1fKfaLVT729F4oHFmyzqD3lAipDFHdf-ybdp1Q1mGGGfxx25IpdC18uRP_JQCj7bar0BAwjOuuVCvuJQaUCl6lHoRiZuGyU/s320/bones.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Apparently, I get excited about poop in a way that only a mother can. <br />
<br />
This was an actual conversation with my mother about Roxie:<br />
<br />
Me: <i>Did she poop today?</i><br />
<br />
Mom: <i>She did.</i><br />
<br />
Me: <i>Well...how was it?</i><br />
<br />
Mom: <i>Better. Like a wet cookie.</i><br />
<br />
Me: <i>Good.</i><br />
<br />
Is it strange that I don't think that's even a little bit weird?Suzehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18362246643909289817noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1089932820621332065.post-57147457145707673692012-06-03T14:26:00.002-04:002012-06-03T17:05:38.921-04:00How She's Grown<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU4P21q4ROLMcg723Ydyt9gm6W82MN-E0p0HkoPjMGHtR1pzOTuaxn84DaYwd8NLRFLRu39t-Rk7rYmuYQR2AmLDYXjNO7C_-cojMwdb-ELuMJ1QdWzezqqJuqFDoNWASIsDI_IGNnYTNv/s1600/bridges" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="280" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU4P21q4ROLMcg723Ydyt9gm6W82MN-E0p0HkoPjMGHtR1pzOTuaxn84DaYwd8NLRFLRu39t-Rk7rYmuYQR2AmLDYXjNO7C_-cojMwdb-ELuMJ1QdWzezqqJuqFDoNWASIsDI_IGNnYTNv/s320/bridges" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
She is my world. I honestly didn't realize that a person could love someone so much. She is my heart beating outside of my body. When she hurts, I hurt. When she smiles I cannot help but smile back. Her laugh is infectious. She brightens up the room. <br />
<br />
My little <a href="http://amidstthemelange.blogspot.com/2011/10/shes-pretty-small-for-giant-viking-baby.html">giant viking baby</a> has grown so much. I can barely believe that she is almost 8 months old. She is full of energy and curiosity. She is quite a site to see chasing after the cats in that cute little army crawl that looks vaguely like a baby zombie propelling itself forward by the arms in search of <i>brains</i>. <br />
<br />
She recently discovered that she can sit up all by herself. This revelation happened one morning around 3AM on a night that she refused to go to sleep. We had finally given up on her sleeping in her crib and put her in the bed between us when she decides to demonstrate her new skill. I found a tiny bit of energy to marvel this new feat of ingenuity and accomplishment, then closed my eyes to rest. I did manage to ask her why she chose the middle of the night to show us a new trick. <i>Don't you know that night time is sleepy time? </i><br />
<br />
It's almost like she was practicing sitting up that night because she knew that we'd be asleep and wouldn't see her. Like maybe she wanted to keep that little skill a secret from us. Sneaky, sneaky little baby.<br />
<br />
She is doing all of these amazing things. Army crawling, sitting up,
pulling up, testing the limits of her <a href="http://www.fisher-price.com/en_US/brands/babygear/products/64226">jumperoo</a>, letting me read books to
her and not immediately trying to eat them, giving hugs and kisses, squealing in delight, feeding herself some
things, shaking rattles and laughing at the sound, solving quadratic
equations. Well okay, maybe that last one isn't true. But she is is <i>totally </i>amazing.<br />
<br />
Every day I am reminded how lucky I am.<br />

<br />
It was 6 AM. I went outside into the freezing <strike>pouring rain</strike> drizzle to crank up my car so it would be all warm and toasty for my ride to work. After a few more minutes of getting ready inside my warm and cozy house, I head out to brave the elements again, locking the door behind me.<br />
<br />
I grasp the cold door handle in an attempt to open the car door only to find that it's locked. I don't freak out. I remain calm and ask myself, "What now?" I try every door on the Pilot. All locked. Did I mention that it's about 30 degrees outside and there's a <strike>monsoon going on</strike> drizzle? My keys are in the locked car. My house is locked with the spare key locked inside. I'm stranded in the cold. And then the panic starts...<br />
<br />
So<i> </i>I call my husband to leave a <strike>frantic</strike> cool and collected voicemail since he has the only other key. There. Now I have taken a step towards reconciling my situation. The Hubs can bring me his key and I will be saved! I walk onto the porch to have <i>some </i>shelter against the chill.<br />
<br />
Then it happens. I notice the kitchen window isn't locked. Maybe I can somehow use this to my advantage and get inside my house! The bottom of the window is maybe 7-7.5 feet off the ground. But, there is railing from the porch steps right next to it... So, I hop up onto the railing and slide the window up, up, up. <a href="http://amidstthemelange.blogspot.com/p/cast-crew.html">Bandit</a> notices the activity around the window and hops up on the counter to inspect all the ruckus. <br />
<br />
Picture me there in the cold rain with one leg on a slippery stair banister, straddling the foot and a half gap between the railing and the house, with my other leg raised up to my neck and my foot in the kitchen window. The cat notices that I'm actually coming into the house and assumes he'll be in trouble for being on the counter so he runs away like a scared little girl. Great, my only companion during my first B&E leaves me to deal with this precarious situation all alone.<br />
<br />
Eventually, I decide that the position I'm in is too awkward and it would be harder to to back out and climb down. So I press onward. Bracing my arm inside the window frame, I pull myself into the warmth of the house.<br />
<br />
And it was then that I realized that I am kind of a ninja. All before 6:15 in the morning. <br />
<br />

The thought of leaving my child and going back to work makes me ridiculously sad. The Hubs is betting that I'll cry like the little baby I don't want to leave. I'm betting The Hubs is right about that. <br />
<br />
Some days are hard. Like when she is SO TIRED but fighting going to sleep... So she's awake all day and cranky because she needs a nap. Those days I rock and bounce & hope and pray that she will just go to sleep. Then when that glorious moment comes, I look at how sweet and innocent she is and have to resist the urge to scoop her up and cuddle her.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgA8v2hOa57w6IePT8l0elrjoPic9YBJPQNwPK610c24oEEsUzO4Z7e0omHG4QTUJCNiSNU0YU-mQZLE9dSYfA9K9O84jxmua7hND0XihcQ-1WlbYS21JbP_JKufVoHM8bBvO-TPjZQNuAB/s1600/IMG_1296.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgA8v2hOa57w6IePT8l0elrjoPic9YBJPQNwPK610c24oEEsUzO4Z7e0omHG4QTUJCNiSNU0YU-mQZLE9dSYfA9K9O84jxmua7hND0XihcQ-1WlbYS21JbP_JKufVoHM8bBvO-TPjZQNuAB/s200/IMG_1296.JPG" width="149" /></a>Other days are great. She's 10 weeks today and has been doing the cutest things lately. She can roll to her side from her back and now all the way onto her stomach. She can sit in her little Bumbo seat and hold her head and back steady. She smiles and coos and goos and makes all the happy little noises that cute little girls should be making. She pulls herself up when you pull on her arms, she holds her head up high during tummy time and she bats at her toys. She actually grabbed one out of my hand today.<br />
<br />
I love spending my day with her. I love peering over into her crib as she's waking up from a nap and seeing her smile when she notices me there. I love when she grabs my hand and hugs it to her chest. I love the look on her face when I make silly noises at her. I love watching her stretch and curl her little toes. <br />
<br />
I makes me sad to think of all the things that I will miss when I go back to work. But alas, being a stay at home mommy isn't in the cards for me right now. So back to work I will go.<br />
<br />Suzehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18362246643909289817noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1089932820621332065.post-31821882583692518362011-11-21T18:05:00.009-05:002011-11-21T21:58:07.744-05:00So I finally got out of the effing house...The story of our first family vacationAs it turns out, her 6 week mark coincided with out 4 year wedding anniversary. So we loaded up the SUV with enough baby gear to open our own outlet store and headed to the beach for the weekend. It was a great mini-vacation! I was able to finally get out of the house and away from everything. I think I was most excited about eating a meal at a restaurant--and not just take out, we actually dined in.<i> Don't judge, it's been awhile. </i><br />
<br />
I, however, was a ball of nerves almost the entire time.<br />
<br />
I was worried about taking her out in public because it's, you know, cold & flu season and I very much want her to not get sick. I worried about her being in the chill air, around the unwashed public and strangers wanting to look at and coo over her because she is absolutely adorable. And honestly, let's face it...who wouldn't want to ogle over my cute baby? So we ventured out into to public places with her for the first time while I tried to avoid having a panic attack.<br />
<br />
We took her to an aquarium, her first restaurant and on the beach for the first time. My precious baby was in the general vicinity of strangers and as far as I can tell, she hasn't contracted Anthrax, Ebola or the Zombie virus.<br />
<br />
But I'm still keeping a watchful eye on her...just in case.<br />

At 4 weeks and 2 days old, she had her first bottle and her daddy was very excited to finally be able to feed her. This was a bonding experience that he'd been waiting for since we brought her home from the hospital. I'm very glad to know that if I'm ever away from her when she's hungry she'll be able to eat from a bottle. This knowledge will help with some of my anxiety from being away from her. Also, she's still nursing well after introducing a pacifier and bottle. That's a huge plus. I'm not sure that my boobs can take any more latching issues.<br />

<br />
She's also doing better with this whole sleeping at night thing. <i>Knock on wood..</i>. The past few nights have been pretty good...something I'm very thankful for. It seems like I've gotten more sleep in the past few days than since before she was born. I'm actually starting to feel more like myself these days. Don't know if it's the extra sleep or if my hormones are finally getting back to normal. Whatever the reason, I'll take it.<br />

<br />
I actually got out of the house to go for a walk with a friend a few nights ago. And then Saturday, I went grocery shopping all alone. It was nice to be out of the house, but I still worried about her the whole time I was gone. <i>Would I be back in time for her next nursing? What if she's hungry earlier for some reason?</i> Well, if that happens now her daddy can just give her a bottle.<br />

Mama's got some freedom now!Suzehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18362246643909289817noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1089932820621332065.post-49313854004236143692011-11-06T15:29:00.003-05:002011-11-06T15:29:53.817-05:00The doctor says she's perfectTrue story.<br />
<br />
We took the little one to her 2 week well visit and the doctor said that she was perfect. And that's coming from a professional, folks. :-) I really like the pediatrician. Not only is he a cutie, but he was also very nice and knowledgeable. We had to wait for over an hour to be seen, though. Apparently, that's the price you pay for seeing one of the popular doctors in this town...a longer wait. <br />
<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><i>on the way home from her first doctor visit</i></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
Aside from having her days and nights confused, we couldn't ask for a better baby. I've got my fingers crossed that she's starting to figure that one out. She did really well last night. She woke up to nurse and then went right back to sleep with the exception of a 2 hour stretch of wakeful alertness. (And since it was a weekend, the Hubs sat up with her while I caught some more Zs.) This is a huge improvement over those nights of being awake from 11 PM to 4 AM. That was pretty rough.<br />
<br />
Once she hits 4 weeks old, we're going to introduce a bottle. We've been waiting for the 4 week mark since we had some nursing issues in the beginning and want to make sure that's good and established before introducing another type of nipple. And since we've been nursing, I haven't slept for longer than about 3 hours in one stretch since she was born. I'm looking forward to being able to let her daddy give her a bottle at night so that I can sleep! Also, he is really looking forward to being able to feed her. <br />

So after an early morning trip to the hospital, an epidural and one hour of pushing, I got to meet my 6 lb, 15 oz baby girl. It was amazing and understandably emotional.<br />
<br />
What's really funny about the labor and birth story is that the during the last 4 weeks of my pregnancy, my husband was a complete ball of nerves. He would freak out every time that I got up to use the bathroom at night asking, "What's wrong?" or "Is everything OK?" At one point, he actually followed me down the hallway because he thought I was in labor. <br />
<br />
Now, when the deed was actually going down and I was having contractions that were 12-16 minutes apart the yahoo went to sleep. When they were between 4-6 minutes apart, I woke The Hubs...who promptly went back to sleep. I had to slap him to get him to wake up. <i>I actually had to slap him</i>.<br />
<br />
So he gets up, dresses and we head to the hospital. He was awfully calm and later admitted that he didn't think I was actually in labor. Apparently, I was very calm to be in active labor. So calm, in fact, that my husband didn't believe me when I said, "It's go time." After we were all checked in and I was safely in the labor and delivery bed, the nurses admitted that they also thought I wasn't in labor until they checked my cervix and saw that I was, indeed, 5 cm dilated. Evidently, I am very good at managing my pain. <br />
<br />
Since I was in active labor, I was admitted to the hospital. And The Hubs began to nap in the delivery room. (Not to worry folks, this is something that I'll likely never let him live down.) There was a brief scare that I wouldn't be able to get an epidural. Thankfully, that resolved itself and I was able to receive that handy miracle of modern medicine. When it was time, I pushed for an hour and the giant viking baby I was terrified of was born and tossed like a sack of potatoes onto my stomach.<br />
<br />
She was just under 7 pounds, had more hair on her head than her daddy, and had the cutest little cry that sounded like a billy goat. And she was mine. <br />

I'm so ridiculously ready to have this baby! I know, I know... It's not even my due date yet. But I have this fear that I'll end up being the first woman on Earth to be 60 weeks pregnant or something ridiculous. Or I'll go over my due date and the baby will poop and be in fetal distress. Or she'll be 20 lbs! I guess I just create a very homey and comfortable environment for this little one. So comfy in fact, that she doesn't want to honor her strict 40 week lease. <br />
<br />
We've tried everything I can think of to get this party started with very little luck. Walking, swinging, lunges, sex, eating pineapple,eggplant, Chinese food... to no avail. Yesterday I walked 3 miles, ate spicy Mexican food and did 100 lunges. The walking and lunges did cause some pressure, which I guess is a good thing since it means that stuff is actually happening to prepare for labor. But nothing seems to be happening with any type of speed. I've been very slowly dilating for weeks and I'm still at about 3cm. She's been slowing dropping, but still isn't low enough and my cervix isn't in the right spot yet.<br />
<br />
She's so strong and big now that every time she moves it hurts. And all this pressure is making it hard to walk around and get things done around the house. I've been cleaning and cooking meals to freeze. I've been putting swings and pack 'n plays together. The nursery is finished. I've made baby blankets. There isn't a stitch of dirty laundry in the house!<br />
<br />
Well, I suppose I'll end this here. I'm going to try my hand at making a burlap table runner for the kitchen table. And then make a couple lasagnas to freeze for after the baby arrives. And then wash out all the trash cans in the house. And then spray paint some glass bottles black to finish the center piece for the kitchen table. And then re-organize the closet that I organized yesterday. It's ridiculous... I can't sit still.<br />
<br />
Anyone have any suggestions for jump starting labor? Other than caster oil....not planning on trying that one. I'd rather than have diarrhea and be in labor at the same time. :-/Suzehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18362246643909289817noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1089932820621332065.post-1993265603827882472011-09-27T15:10:00.000-04:002011-09-27T15:10:57.494-04:00Even the Best Husbands Can Say Douchey Things<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in;">

Update.... I have no clue how or why my iPhone decided to post this link as a blog. But I'll leave it here as Exhibit A for when it tries to commit some crime that may result in a trial. Everyone gives me food now. Even the universe has decided to pitch in and throw some extra food my way.<br />
<br />
We were at the beach recently eating at some pizza place. I ordered a personal size peperoni pizza and The Hubs ordered a medium pizza with tons of meats. They brought our food out, but it was a medium peperoni and a personal sized meaty pizza. In an effort to correct their mistake, they brought out two new pizzas. We ended up with a personal and medium size of both pizzas. It was pretty ridiculous.<br />
<br />
The next Monday I was at work and decided to get a chocolate bar out of a vending machine. I put in my change and hit the appropriate buttons and received two candy bars for my efforts. But it doesn't stop there, folks. We also ordered lunch to be delivered... I ordered a peperoni calzone. They sent an Italian one instead. After a quick phone call and a 15 minute wait, I had 2 calzones. <br />
<br />
The next night, we were eating out with some friends and I ordered a dessert and the other couple ordered a dessert to split. I got mine first and promptly devoured it. Shortly after this, two more desserts came to our table (the one the couple ordered plus an extra). I accept full responsibility for this happening. Obviously, the Universe thought I should probably eat something else. After all, I am growing a baby.<br />
<br />
Coworkers are always succumbing to this invisible pull and offering me food. I have eaten more in the past few months, it seems, than I've eaten in my entire life combined. I'm forced to wonder what will happen once I give birth. I'm assuming that once I'm no longer plump with child everyone will no longer feel the need to supply me with an unending supply of food. But will I still have this insatiable appetite?Suzehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18362246643909289817noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1089932820621332065.post-65568947586156634682011-08-14T03:05:00.000-04:002011-08-14T03:05:32.608-04:00The Last Crusade...is a good night's sleep<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:WordDocument> <w:View>Normal</w:View> <w:Zoom>0</w:Zoom> <w:TrackMoves/> <w:TrackFormatting/> <w:PunctuationKerning/> <w:ValidateAgainstSchemas/> <w:SaveIfXMLInvalid>false</w:SaveIfXMLInvalid> <w:IgnoreMixedContent>false</w:IgnoreMixedContent> <w:AlwaysShowPlaceholderText>false</w:AlwaysShowPlaceholderText> <w:DoNotPromoteQF/> <w:LidThemeOther>EN-US</w:LidThemeOther> <w:LidThemeAsian>X-NONE</w:LidThemeAsian> <w:LidThemeComplexScript>X-NONE</w:LidThemeComplexScript> <w:Compatibility> <w:BreakWrappedTables/> <w:SnapToGridInCell/> <w:WrapTextWithPunct/> <w:UseAsianBreakRules/> <w:DontGrowAutofit/> <w:SplitPgBreakAndParaMark/> <w:DontVertAlignCellWithSp/> <w:DontBreakConstrainedForcedTables/> <w:DontVertAlignInTxbx/> <w:Word11KerningPairs/> <w:CachedColBalance/> </w:Compatibility> <m:mathPr> <m:mathFont m:val="Cambria Math"/> <m:brkBin m:val="before"/> <m:brkBinSub m:val="--"/> <m:smallFrac m:val="off"/> <m:dispDef/> <m:lMargin m:val="0"/> <m:rMargin m:val="0"/> <m:defJc m:val="centerGroup"/> <m:wrapIndent m:val="1440"/> <m:intLim m:val="subSup"/> <m:naryLim m:val="undOvr"/> </m:mathPr></w:WordDocument> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:LatentStyles DefLockedState="false" DefUnhideWhenUsed="true"

<div class="MsoNormal">A few weekends ago AMC, or USA, or some other channel ran an Indiana Jones marathon weekend. They showed all the movies beginning that Saturday afternoon lasting until sometime that night. We had some errands to run that afternoon, but when we got home and realized that they were on, of course, The Hubs and I settled in to watch them.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />

Well, maybe just tutus...So I totally made two tutus for newborn pics in October. I'm so very excited to have actually been <i>craftsy </i>enough to have completed them. Not to mention, they were very inexpensive to make. A little tulle, a little elastic...and voilà, I have tutus!<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My baby's first Halloween Costume</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
I did a green and black one since she will be born near Halloween. I have purchased a cute little black headband and green fuzzy attachment to complete the look. And also the reverse of that, just in case I like that look better... It's always good to have options.<br />
<br />
Also, I just bought a sewing machine because I was feeling inspired to create fun things like little girl clothes, curtains, and all other manner of crafts that could be accomplished by the use of a sewing machine. Unfortunately, I can't figure out of to thread the damn thing. To be fair, I only tried for a very short amount of time. Then, I was suddenly tired and decided that I would deal with it later. That's how awesome I am.<br />
<br />
It's just as well. I suppose I should be more focused on the maternity pictures as those are coming up in the more immediate future rather than sewing random things.Suzehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18362246643909289817noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1089932820621332065.post-75619213956801973632011-07-28T19:45:00.005-04:002011-08-01T18:28:48.510-04:00I'm Positive the Cat Thinks I'm an Evil Murderess...The Hubs has been out of town this week and my fat kitty, Smokie, has been extra loving and sweet. Coincidence?<br />
<br />
Perhaps...but my intuition tells me that Smokie thinks I've <i>gotten rid of</i> The Hubs and he's afraid of being the next victim. In order to prevent this, he has been displaying his value in uncharacteristic ways by:<br />
<ul style="text-align: left;"><li> not throwing up constantly</li>
<li> lying near me on the couch</li>
<li> trying to sit in my lap</li>
<li>nuzzling against my legs when I stand up</li>
<li>begging to be petted</li>
</ul><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWH_wcdfuwzJYJvBUE7n0wN7kfFH7A7HOMcqC5nH5-orJS0A0YOPi-5lnDzFMhAgujGmXzE8vLu3ueEBTIAN49Ln8FXhK0FcMsNCKNPMPJv8J_tdIj3EQo3YdCLheb1m_L4qZvbm-q6pgR/s1600/smokie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWH_wcdfuwzJYJvBUE7n0wN7kfFH7A7HOMcqC5nH5-orJS0A0YOPi-5lnDzFMhAgujGmXzE8vLu3ueEBTIAN49Ln8FXhK0FcMsNCKNPMPJv8J_tdIj3EQo3YdCLheb1m_L4qZvbm-q6pgR/s320/smokie.jpg" width="294" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4zXnUA7R7D94Lx0qunuueMNlUWOcCdQHHBLW37yHynPxsS1Xkjz-_JLv8pdFOjzYxJXocH6RPblb35gtZnoXcCGkBI9a13We32W7pOKSy_98f5Rys0Ux1DYu-hp4jCW7suNkQ_hONVDnF/s1600/smokie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div><br />
It's really getting to be inconvenient when I just want to nap on the couch and can't because his petite little paws attempt to walk their way across my belly. He's a hefty little kitty with tiny dagger-like paws so it's basically like being stabbed. I don't know about you, but I try to actively avoid being stabbed. So I've been throwing this well-meaning cat off the couch to avoid the unintended torture. This is probably not reassuring to the cat who is fearful that he'll be the next casualty of the household. <br />
<br />
Oh well...maybe he'll realize his mistake once The Hubs returns unscathed. And the madness will finally stop. Although, I'd be happy if kept this whole non-vomiting thing going. It's been nice not to have to clean up the random piles of undigested cat food...Ick.<br />
<br />
*******<br />
<b>UPDATE:</b> Immediately upon The Hubs' return, Smokie began his routine of vomiting again. I'm starting to think that he's allergic to The Hubs.Suzehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18362246643909289817noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1089932820621332065.post-59619315132419151792011-07-24T20:04:00.000-04:002011-07-24T20:04:02.309-04:00A Hot Ride & That Damn Dragonfly<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:WordDocument> <w:View>Normal</w:View> <w:Zoom>0</w:Zoom> <w:TrackMoves/> <w:TrackFormatting/> <w:PunctuationKerning/> <w:ValidateAgainstSchemas/> <w:SaveIfXMLInvalid>false</w:SaveIfXMLInvalid> <w:IgnoreMixedContent>false</w:IgnoreMixedContent> <w:AlwaysShowPlaceholderText>false</w:AlwaysShowPlaceholderText> <w:DoNotPromoteQF/> <w:LidThemeOther>EN-US</w:LidThemeOther> <w:LidThemeAsian>X-NONE</w:LidThemeAsian> <w:LidThemeComplexScript>X-NONE</w:LidThemeComplexScript> <w:Compatibility> <w:BreakWrappedTables/> <w:SnapToGridInCell/> <w:WrapTextWithPunct/> <w:UseAsianBreakRules/> <w:DontGrowAutofit/> <w:SplitPgBreakAndParaMark/> <w:DontVertAlignCellWithSp/> <w:DontBreakConstrainedForcedTables/> <w:DontVertAlignInTxbx/> <w:Word11KerningPairs/> <w:CachedColBalance/> </w:Compatibility> <w:BrowserLevel>MicrosoftInternetExplorer4</w:BrowserLevel> <m:mathPr> <m:mathFont m:val="Cambria Math"/> <m:brkBin m:val="before"/> <m:brkBinSub m:val="--"/> <m:smallFrac m:val="off"/> <m:dispDef/> <m:lMargin m:val="0"/> <m:rMargin m:val="0"/> <m:defJc m:val="centerGroup"/> <m:wrapIndent m:val="1440"/> <m:intLim m:val="subSup"/> <m:naryLim m:val="undOvr"/> </m:mathPr></w:WordDocument> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:LatentStyles DefLockedState="false" DefUnhideWhenUsed="true"

<div class="MsoNormal">The Hubs and I took a trip to Savannah, GA so that he could attend a Jiu Jitsu seminar hosted by <a href="http://jiujitsu-360.blogspot.com/2011/07/roberto-cyborg-abreu-seminar-report.html">some famous robot</a> in that field. Being that I’m all pregnant and tired, I would have preferred to stay at home and lay on the couch. However, when you’re married you have to do things that your spouse wants to do every now and then. Since I’m saving up these instances so that I can cash them in to make him do something really girly, off to Savannah we went. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">The trip went well until we were headed home. Apparently, we have a leak in the <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">AC something or other</i>. When this happens, your air conditioning doesn’t work. We stopped so that The Hubs could buy some refrigerant to add. I had high hopes for this, but sadly it didn’t seem to help in the least.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">It was 95 degrees with a heat index of 102 degrees. <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">With. No. Air. Conditioning.</i> The trip home from Savannah typically takes 2.5 hours. Today, it took a grand total of 4 hours because we had to keep stopping to buy water. We did stop at one point to get ice cream. That slightly revived my spirits; however, I was still soaked in sweat and my hair was whipping around my head like a crazy person in the wind.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">Since we had to ride with the windows down, the HOT air was circulating in the car and at one point during the trip, a giant bug was blown into my lap. I reacted like any brave person would. I, of course, screamed hysterically as the giant bug tried to bite my sensitive flesh. After much flailing about and jumping around in my seat, I realized that it was a dead <a href="http://amidstthemelange.blogspot.com/2011/07/dragonflies-dont-eat-cheese-pizza.html">dragonfly</a>. It would seem that the vile and evil creature from a few weeks ago was unable to escape from the heat of my car and met his untimely demise only to seek his revenge from beyond the grave. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">Conclusion: AC Rocks. Not having AC sucks. As The Hubs was out of town for most of the day, I did some cleaning and then spent some time with a friend and her two children.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgB3ZpqRRVWuru84cBwX-dPnCQb0toQ6w4_xn8AvD1zAdNLOvoGcy16VCIf60IQ_u3nYo-hJ-Ij3U7E1QN_Y-6jXpec6GJkbn7wbjDIkfleZhF8ESRMbSFdeQTuLxzf57no-thb6r8elHbC/s1600/shoe4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgB3ZpqRRVWuru84cBwX-dPnCQb0toQ6w4_xn8AvD1zAdNLOvoGcy16VCIf60IQ_u3nYo-hJ-Ij3U7E1QN_Y-6jXpec6GJkbn7wbjDIkfleZhF8ESRMbSFdeQTuLxzf57no-thb6r8elHbC/s1600/shoe4.jpg" /></a><br />
I vacuumed the floor & couches, swept, did the dishes, cleaned the stove & counter tops, cleaned the bathroom, washed/dried 3 loads of laundry, folded/put away 6 loads. All before 9:30 AM. (I even painted my toenails.) Not too shabby if I do have to say so myself.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZCQcz4GUEYrKCEXDj_OX5RZyMF8jCde5zH2nFty1-RY2mMCq4kuB7upAbWrEzn733hS5s97J0PFq7b4oLW06jucr6EIY9bdl8Uvqf-GVQNd_XF9vWRH6PEQOdWF_scw3XR2Ab7CWCVLDf/s1600/shoe2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZCQcz4GUEYrKCEXDj_OX5RZyMF8jCde5zH2nFty1-RY2mMCq4kuB7upAbWrEzn733hS5s97J0PFq7b4oLW06jucr6EIY9bdl8Uvqf-GVQNd_XF9vWRH6PEQOdWF_scw3XR2Ab7CWCVLDf/s1600/shoe2.jpg" /></a>The Hubs and I like to play this game we call "Shoe Count." It's really very simple... At any given time, either of us can call for a count. AT that point, we just count all the different shoes around the house that aren't where the belong. And yes, I do, in fact, recognize that this is pretty dumb. But it's our thing. <br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjqWqZY3bX9n2fZwmeiP1t9QedX6tya22dvMCItNcS0I-2ox_tDGSqTotbMDURvjk4CCWP-jFPJuZYpUSnNfd8q-eYk5HCnEMTvsvM5HgDWsq8DhQdhwPCyEznoSKOrjGyQUaWx4eGq4o3/s1600/shoe3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjqWqZY3bX9n2fZwmeiP1t9QedX6tya22dvMCItNcS0I-2ox_tDGSqTotbMDURvjk4CCWP-jFPJuZYpUSnNfd8q-eYk5HCnEMTvsvM5HgDWsq8DhQdhwPCyEznoSKOrjGyQUaWx4eGq4o3/s1600/shoe3.jpg" /></a><br />
During this cleaning extravaganza, I noticed several pairs of giant shoes all around the kitchen and living room so of course, I called a count.<br />
<br />
It's important to understand that historically, The Hubs loses this game and today was no exception. =D Since he typically denies this fact, I decided to document today's findings so there would be no argument on the matter.<br />
<br />
Me = 0, The Hubs = 4. Dear Hubs, please see the pictures as confirmation of the score. This should settle it.Suzehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18362246643909289817noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1089932820621332065.post-45929221422017893462011-07-13T19:45:00.000-04:002011-07-13T19:45:28.711-04:00IHOP & a Healthy Dose of NeuroticismMy husband and I had breakfast at IHOP recently. While being seated, the hostess asked, “Do you know what you’re having?"<br />
<br />
<i>“Pancakes”</i> was the response that immediately jumped to my mind. I did recover quickly enough and was able to respond that we’re having a little girl.<br />
<br />
I had to wonder, though. Does this make me a bad parent? Shouldn’t I be constantly focused on the child I’m carrying? Shouldn’t my little miracle be in the forefront of my thoughts? I’ve since decided that I’m probably off the hook on this one because: <br />
<ol><li>We were being handed menus at the time. </li>
<li>We were in a restaurant while being asked if we knew what we were having. </li>
</ol>Those factors, combined with my insatiable and mind-numbing hunger, would lead anyone to jump to the conclusion she was asking about our meal choice. So it was a simple mistake, right? No Big. We’re not going to be awful parents. <br />
<br />
I’ll be the first to admit that this train of thought might seem to be a bit neurotic. Well, sue me. I’ve become increasingly more neurotic as the pregnancy progresses. A few weeks ago, I thought I would be an awful parent because I couldn’t decide on something as simple as crib bedding. <i>Is it my fault that the only bedding sets out there look like the Pink Princess vomited up flowers and butterflies? Yuck.</i> Or when it occurred to me that I probably won't be able to stand all those weird cartoon shows that are so popular now. How will I handle that? <br />
<br />
What will I do if my baby is colicky? What if aliens abduct my baby? What if the aliens who abduct my baby flush her out of an airlock into space to make her stop crying? Irrational, much? Believe me, I'm aware. Most of these thoughts are irrational and completely unfounded. But others... What if I miscarry? What if I fall while pregnant and lose the baby? What if she has a disability? Not that I would love her less, but how will I cope with the challenges that would bring?<br />
<br />
There's really nothing to be done. Whatever situation arises, we'll deal it then. In the meantime, I'm trying not to worry about what I might be. But if there's one thing I've learned, its that pregnant women worry. Some more than others.Suzehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18362246643909289817noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1089932820621332065.post-82837504716609170172011-07-09T11:05:00.001-04:002011-07-13T16:42:22.790-04:00Dragonflies Don't Eat Cheese Pizza<i>This post also appears on <a href="http://cheesybloggers.blogspot.com/">Cheesy Bloggers</a>! </i><br />
<br />
So we're driving down the road and pass a gas station that happens to have several U-Haul trucks parked in the front. Not a terribly odd situation, but my mind takes the most random turn as I immediately think <i>I want cheese pizza. </i>Apparently, the orange in the U-Haul logo reminds me of the orange in the Little Caesar's pizza box. Ergo, I MUST HAVE CHEESE PIZZA.<br />
<br />
Over to Little Caesar's we head and after a brief wait, my husband returns with a pizza box filled with the most delicious smelling food ever discovered. Shortly thereafter, I'm startled by a loud buzzing sound indicating that we had a stow-away traveling with us. I was a little relieved to discover that it was not a serial killer with a chainsaw in the back seat, but a gigantic dragonfly randomly buzzing at an alarmingly high volume.<br />
<br />
Not only was this disturbing on a creepy, bug-in-my-car level, but it also made me fearful to open the pizza and start munching on the drive home. I knew that the evil dragonfly would just loooooove the chance to taste my delicious cheese pizza and I wasn’t sharing.<br />
<br />
As it turns out, I had very little to worry about. After consuming a good portion of my pizza, I was compelled to Google dragonfly diets. As it turns out, they’re not very interested in cheese pizza after all.Suzehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18362246643909289817noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1089932820621332065.post-51294850516998346652011-07-07T23:04:00.000-04:002011-07-07T23:04:12.147-04:00I Should Be Sleeping...<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I should be sleeping right now. Instead, I'm lying awake while my baby is (I can only assume) trying to escape from the womb. Well, either that or she's doing Zumba.</div><br />
My stomach is aflutter and so is my mind. I can't seem to turn it off tonight. I'm very excited because I've finally managed to select fabric for crib bedding.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijPRc7MCYPcxCLXYltXhwbz2SfDV0Am3KcXaeprlyzGhZTGj3uZNwWWMgNLBHmA18s-rGlKi0bxY9FSg53JBNh1VUauOU3V5TqDI-Wkd6vNBLlbNsATFIrSTFGBF14zTbVfnHn4PmFF3C9/s320/photo%25281%2529.JPG" width="239" /></div><br />
How adorable is that?<br />
<br />
I'm also excited about a baby blanket that I'm crocheting. It's just over a third finished and I want to get out of bed to work on it some more. Instead, I'm forcing myself to stay in bed until I fall asleep. Of course, I'm lying here blogging about lying here which, I realize, may not be very conducive to sleep. There's another thing to ponder while I await slumber to overtake me. Ah, the things made possible by the advent of smart phones...Suzehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18362246643909289817noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1089932820621332065.post-41128454126539920012011-07-06T21:12:00.002-04:002011-07-07T20:41:19.732-04:00Attack of the Pillows<span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">It’s a very good thing that we have a king-sized bed. Otherwise, my husband would most likely be sleeping on the couch. Not that he would be in trouble and banished to the couch; he simply wouldn’t fit in the bed with me and all my pillows. My poor husband has been exiled to a small section of mattress while my pillows and I enjoy the majority of the bed. Getting near me takes almost a herculean effort and the scaling of a mountain of pillows. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">I’m not entirely sure if this is true for all pregnant women, but it certainly holds true for me: the farther along you are in your pregnancy, the more you will appreciate a good pillow. I started out sleeping with the two king-sized pillows that I have always slept with. Somewhere near the second trimester, I added a throw pillow from our couch. Shortly thereafter, I added the Boppy© pregnancy pillow. So I pretty much sleep surrounded in a cocoon of pillows. It's like they’re taking over…</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEoUEcHS2z2S7wQxu0c_3qyZvvIaE-mCyjjUrM9uAM8syrZLCQxiVORxWd98ob2hb7Fi4dtB0G84YBhk4cgPxFZ3FW1h7T0PR8AMrB3RzCUtZMzfXwNla3x_JW8QLaKbzGKDjj_m4T72pi/s1600/images.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEoUEcHS2z2S7wQxu0c_3qyZvvIaE-mCyjjUrM9uAM8syrZLCQxiVORxWd98ob2hb7Fi4dtB0G84YBhk4cgPxFZ3FW1h7T0PR8AMrB3RzCUtZMzfXwNla3x_JW8QLaKbzGKDjj_m4T72pi/s1600/images.jpg" /></a></span></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Beware the Pillow Monster. Pretty soon they'll have faces...and teeth.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">Not sure why this is happening. Apparently, being pregnant puts you in a more vulnerable position to defend against the pillow conspiracy. I humbly urge you to stay vigilant. Be strong & resist the urge to add pillow after pillow to your bed each night. Trust me, your husband will thank you.</span><br />

Yes folks, this is the man I married.Suzehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18362246643909289817noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1089932820621332065.post-15613878176558606092011-07-02T16:04:00.002-04:002011-07-02T16:11:09.305-04:00Self-Imposed Squatter InterventionI have decided that it's very important for my child to not think that her parents are squatters who just happened upon a vacant house and decided to move in. So after living here for over a year, I now have a rough deadline of about three months to get this place whipped into shape. In an effort to make this dream into a reality, I have created a brilliant, four-step plan to accomplish my goal.<br />
<br />
<strong>Phase One:</strong><br />
Window treatments are vital to making a place feel <em>homey. </em> I need valances for the kitchen, curtains for the living area and also, curtains for the nursery. I began my search for the correct fabrics today and I'll admit, I was slightly overwhelmed by the choices. I hit up four fabric stores looking for curtain fabric but ultimately purchased a patten for crib bedding (which is a step in the right direction. See phase four.). This is somewhat amusing because I cannot sew nor do I even own a sewing machine. So really, no measurable progress has been made with this step to date.<br />
<br />
<strong>Phase Two:</strong><br />
We need a media stand. We are currently using my old TV stand from college. It's really a piece of crap with nowhere to hide any excess cordage so everything behind it looks like a tangled mess. I'm sure this is some sort of safety hazard for infants. I feel confident that as parents-to-be, my husband and I should be eliminating potential threats from our home. In short, the baby deathtrap has got to go.<br />
<br />
<strong>Phase Three:</strong><br />
Since moving into this house (if you'll remember, was over a year ago) we have had a canvas painting leaning against the wall in our bedroom. I feel it's about time to get the damn thing framed and hung. I mean seriously, we can't have our baby thinking her parents are too lazy to hang a panting on the wall, now can we?<br />
<br />
<strong>Phase Four:</strong><br />
This is quite possibly the most important phase of my foolproof plan to turn this barren space into a home: Decorate the nursery. This may seem like the most obvious of the things, but apparently, we're the type of people to procrastinate for a whole year just to avoid hanging a painting. The nursery currently consists of a room with an un-assembled crib, an Ab-Coaster, an entertainment armoire and a rocking chair. We've got a lot to do in this area, but at least we have a crib.<br />
<br />
So as you can see, my master plan is quite a bit of genius and should be relatively easy to pull off. The tricky part will be finding the time and energy to get all this done. <br />
<br />
Anyone want to sew some curtains?Suzehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18362246643909289817noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1089932820621332065.post-42891037604237277412011-06-28T20:30:00.002-04:002011-06-28T21:36:39.007-04:00Dinner in my Lounge PantsAs I enter into my third trimester, I have to say that the worst thing about pregnancy (so far) is that no one understands how tired I am. My biggest issue is exhaustion, but I hear that's par for the course. Sometimes it seems as if I'm too tired to even sleep. It's hard to comprehend, I know. But trust me...it's real. Last week held no real sleep for me, only cat naps... My eyes were constantly teary from exhaustion. I couldn't think straight. I was easily perturbed. (Thankfully, the pregnancy gods took mercy by granting me a small reprieve by allowing me to have 8 hours of a sleep so sound that even the astounding strength of a kickboxing fetus was unable to interrupt.)<br />
<br />
I've been extremely lucky and haven't suffered from many of the scary symptoms I've heard or read about. It's been a relatively uneventful pregnancy thus far. I try to tell myself this when I become frustrated with my husband whose only crime is wanting to spend time with me. After coming home from a 8.5 hour work day, the hubs will ask if I want to go out to eat dinner. The usual reply is: <em>No; I want to lay on the couch and eat dinner in my lounge pants.</em> Is that too much to ask?Suzehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18362246643909289817noreply@blogger.com0
